Robert Adler, MD, MSEd is Associate Pediatrician-in-Chief at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). In this newly created role, Dr. Adler will work in partnership with Dr. Alan S. Wayne, Pediatrician-in-Chief, to assist in clinical, administrative, financial, and educational matters, and to provide continuous support of the enterprise from the office of the Pediatrician-in-Chief. This new position has been established in recognition of the extensive nature of the duties and responsibilities of the Pediatrician-in-Chief.
Dr. Adler has served many important mission-critical roles during his tenure at CHLA, which spans 5 decades. He currently serves as Vice Chair for Clinical and Finance in the Department of Pediatrics; Physician Advisor, Provider Relations; Physician Advisor, Visitor Services; and Professor of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He is the inaugural holder of the Roberta G. Williams, MD Endowed Chair in Pediatrics. Over the years, Dr. Adler has served as the division head of General Pediatrics, as well as acting head of multiple other divisions including Emergency and Transport Medicine, Medical Genetics, Neurology, Neonatology, and the Intensive Care Unit.
Dr. Adler’s dedication and skills as a teacher and mentor have been recognized by numerous awards including the Joseph W. St. Geme Jr. Teaching Award from the Western Society for Pediatric Research, USC’s Mellon Mentoring Award, and CHLA’s Robert M. McAllister Award for Faculty Mentoring. The exemplary nature of his professionalism and working relationships across disciplines at CHLA has been recognized by the Morris & Mary Press Humanism Award, and as the first physician honoree of the Department of Nursing Daisy Award.
Dr. Adler’s appointment as the inaugural Associate Pediatrician-in-Chief at CHLA is a testament to his dedication to the Department of Pediatrics and the CHLA community.
